Pray and Seek God’s Face

Pray and Seek God’s Face

PRAY AND SEEK GOD’S FACE

2 Chronicles 7:14; Jonah 3:8

…if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.   2 Chronicles 7:14

You don’t get revival by seeking revival, but by seeking God.

But let people and animals be covered with sackcloth. Let everyone call urgently on God. Let them give up their evil ways and their violence.  Jonah 3:8

  1. Revival Prayer is characterized by brokenness

But let people and animals be covered with sackcloth

The Ninevites believed God. A fast was proclaimed, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth.  Jonah 3:5

…if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Leave this place, you and the people you brought up out of Egypt, and go up to the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I will send an angel before you and drive out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. Go up to the land flowing with milk and honey. But I will not go with you, because you are a stiff-necked people and I might destroy you on the way.”  When the people heard these distressing words, they began to mourn and no one put on any ornaments. For the Lord had said to Moses, “Tell the Israelites, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. If I were to go with you even for a moment, I might destroy you. Now take off your ornaments and I will decide what to do with you.’” So the Israelites stripped off their ornaments at Mount Horeb.

Exodus 33:1-5

On the twenty-fourth day of the same month, the Israelites gathered together, fasting and wearing sackcloth and putting dust on their heads. Those of Israelite descent had separated themselves from all foreigners. They stood in their places and confessed their sins and the sins of their ancestors. They stood where they were and read from the Book of the Law of the Lord their God for a quarter of the day, and spent another quarter in confession and in worshiping the Lord their God.

Nehemiah 9:1-3

You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.  My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.  Psalm 51:16-17

Too many are satisfied with the Church today because they are comparing it to the world and not to the New Testament Church.

Revival is not for people who are unwilling to mourn, and be burdened

  1. Revival Prayer is characterized by urgency

Let everyone call urgently on God.

…and pray and seek my face

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.  Jeremiah 29:11-13

…pray continually (without ceasing)…1 Thessalonians 5:17

One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”Luke 11:1

Three words that describe revival praying are Don’t give up

But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.”Genesis 32:26

  1. Revival Prayer is characterized by holiness

Let them give up their evil ways

and turn from their wicked ways

Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts.  Isaiah 55:6-7

If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened…Psalm 66:18

Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.James 5:16

Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing.1 Timothy 2:8

Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart… Psalm 24:3-4a

When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he relented and did not bring on them the destruction he had threatened.Jonah 3:10

Revival is for people who ready to do business with God

No! Have only the men go and worship the Lord, since that’s what you have been asking for.  Exodus 10:11

Stand up, Stand up for Jesus, ye solders of the cross. Lift high His royal banner, it must not suffer loss. From victory unto victory His army shall He lead, till every foe is vanquished, for Christ is Lord in deed. Stand up, Stand up for Jesus, the trumpet call obey. Forth to the mighty conflict in this His glorious day. Ye that are men now serve Him, against unnumbered foes. Let courage rise with danger and strength to strength oppose. Stand up stand up for Jesus, the strife will not be long. This day the noise of battle, the next the victor’s song. To him that overcometh a crown of life shall be, he with the king of glory shall reign eternally.

I am ready to pray and seek God’s face for Revival!
